Setting up the platform for the service.
This week I assisted Pastor Brian and his wife prepare the platform for the 747 service.
This is a service for college students that meets on Sunday nights. I have always enjoyed attending and being apart of this service by playing the drums. But this week I was able to help with the setup of the stage. This was a different experience. I was to meet everyone there at 7 to which I did, but when I got there, no one was there. So I ended up waiting about ten minutes for someone to show up. Eventually Pastor Brian got there and gave me several instructions. I set up some candles and help set up the musical equipment. Then pastor Brian sent me looking for some stools for the guest interview. I thought this would be easy, but I was looking for about fifteen minutes. This was frustrating because I could not find any stools for the platform, but I ended up finding some and everything worked out.
I liked being in this part of the worship service. I got to help and yet take part in the service at the same time. It was frustrating but I was just a taste of what Pastors have to do every week.

Joel, Sounds like you had a busy practicum this week with setting up for 747. I can understand how frustrating it gets not being able to find things when you are preparing for a service. On the other side though, it's funny how things always seem to work out, no matter how crazy or hectic things are before the beginning of the service. It is always good to try different things than what you are normally used to, in order to get a feeling of what a pastor's job is like. Sounds like things are going well though for your practicum. Have a great weekend!

Joel- I totally agree that it is frustrating when you have to find things that you don't know where they'd be at. It is hard being away from home churches that you are familiar with when you have to do things such as find a prop. It is neat that you got to help setup. I've often wondered when they setup for 747. I think that it was good that you got to see some of the behind the scene work a pastor has to do.
Have a fabulous weekend, Joel!

Joel, Hey man it appears that you had an interesting practicum experience. I can understand your frustration when it comes to trying to find things at a church. It always seems that churches enjoy hiding things! I am glad you also were able to see the 747 service from a different light. Too many times people only see a service from one angle but it is vitally important people consider all the effort that went into that particular service. I hope you continue to have great practicum experiences! Hope your weekend goes well.
In Him,
Mark Shepherd
